Los Angeles Museums

Japanese American National Museum (JANM)

Situated in Little Tokyo within walking distance of our Los Angeles hotel, the Japanese American National Museum is the first museum in the United States devoted to Americans of Japanese ancestry. This non-profit organization seeks to share the stories of Japanese Americans through images, documents, objects and exhibitions. The museum opened in 1992, housed in the first Buddhist temple in Los Angeles and was expanded in 1999 to include an 85,000 square-foot pavilion, beautifully melding history with the future. Exhibits highlight the experience of the Japanese in internment camps during World War II and many of the docents can provide guests with first-hand accounts. Relax in the meditation garden, enjoy a snack in the café and stop by the Museum store for unique gifts and souvenirs. Click here for more information.

Los Angeles County Museum of Art (LACMA)

View an impressive collection of more than 100,000 works of art housed in the Los Angeles County Museum of Art. Established in 1910 as part of the Los Angeles Museum of History, Science, and Art, this museum became a separate entity in 1961 and opened its doors in 1965. Permanent and rotating exhibitions include European, American, Latin American, Islamic, Korean and Japanese art. In addition to intriguing art exhibits, the museum provides film and music programs as well as educational events. Click here for more information.

Museum of Contemporary Art (MOCA)

The Museum of Contemporary Art Los Angeles was founded in 1979 and is the only museum in the city dedicated solely to contemporary art. Boasting an extensive collection of more than 5,000 works produced since 1940, the museum now encompasses three facilities in Los Angeles. Just one mile from our Los Angeles boutique hotel, The Geffen Contemporary at MOCA, was opened in 1983 to serve as a temporary space while the MOCA California Plaza was under construction. This facility was turned from a warehouse and garage into an impressive gallery by famed architect Frank O. Gehry. Click here for more information.
