The Museum of Contemporary Art in Los Angeles (MOCA) celebrates American and European art in all media created from 1940 to present day. The museum’s permanent collection includes such genres as abstract expressionism, pop art, and sculpture. Established and emerging artists are celebrated at MOCA. The museum also hosts an extensive variety of public programs to encourage arts appreciation and expression. The Geffen Contemporary at MOC boasts an interesting past as a police car warehouse in the Little Tokyo neighborhood of Los Angeles. The Geffen is scheduled to reopen in November 2009 with an exhibition titled Collection: The First 30 Years.

The newest museum to open its doors in downtown Los Angeles, The Grammy Museum celebrates music in every form and function. This one-of-a-kind museum features four floors of interactive exhibits, educational programs, a sound stage, and event space for private parties. The Grammy Museum is located at the new LA Live entertainment district in downtown Los Angeles.

Established in 1913, the Natural History Museum of Los Angeles County is the largest museum of its kind in the Western United States. The museum features three floors of permanent exhibits including the nation’s biggest gold collection, a hands-on discovery center and insect zoo designed for children. Among the most popular attractions at the Natural History Museum of Los Angeles County is the “Dueling Dinosaurs” exhibit of complete dinosaur skeletons, one each of a triceratops and a tyrannosaurus rex.
